Rev. Dr. D.J. Ajith Kumar

Rev. Dr. D.J. Ajith Kumar has been in social and spiritual service since more than 30 years, preaching and teaching in India and abroad. He is an ordained Presbyter in the CNI presently working as the Director & Secretary of Stewardship Committee of the Diocese of Phulbani, Church of North India (CNI).

After he did his B.Tech, he did his Master’s Degree (M.A) and Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) in Sociology from Annamalai University. He did his Theological studies – Bachelor of Christian Studies (B.C.S) with the Senate of Serampore College. Further, he took Master in Theology (M.Th) from the Wales University (U.K). He also did his doctoral studies (Ph.D) in Sociology on ‘Education and Tribal Development’ in Annamalai University. His studies in the field of Yoga (M.Sc and P.G.D.C in Yoga) helped to pave the way to present the Gospel in indigenous and indianised approach to the thousands of our countrymen. He has obtained Teacher Training Course in Yoga from the Yoga International Alliance, New Delhi. He has also done Diploma in Buddhism from the Mahabodhi Academy of Pali and Buddhist Studies, Bangalore.

Apart from the spiritual activities he had also presented many research papers in various National and International seminars and conferences in the discipline of Sociology. He is a life member of Indian Sociological Society (ISS), New Delhi and Indian Academy of Social Sciences (IASS), Allahabad. He is working as the Honorary Director of Research Institute of Social Science (RISS), Trivandrum. He is also working as the Senior Mentor and Faculty of Sociology and Research Methodology in the Post Graduate course in TAFTEE.

He is the author of several academic as well as devotional books. “The Guruverse” (Teachings of Christ) and “Church Planting & Church Growth in Rural India” are well known and widely circulated. Some of his songs in Christian music are widely sung irrespective of the Churches.

He is blessed with two children, Abhishek and Vivek. Abhishek has done his MBBS and presently working as Doctor. Vivek, after done BTech (Civil) in College of Engineering, Trivandrum, he is doing his internship in a private sector construction company in Trivandrum. Both of them have dedicated their lives for the Lord’s ministry. His wife, Mini is engaged in full time ministry working in the office of the GMI.

He had founded the Grace Ministries of India (GMI) a Missionary Organisation working in 16 States of India and the neighbouring countries Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh. The GMI has multi-faceted activities like Resident Missionary work, Mobile Tent Ministry, Christian Ashrams, Happy Family Mission and Theological Institute for Mission and Evangelism Studies. He had stepped down from the Presidentship of the GMI in 2013 and handed over to the second-line leadership.

Presently, the Rev.Dr.D.J. Ajith Kumar is spending much of his time in G.Udayagiri, Odisha engaged in the various services of the Diocese of Phulbani. He is also working as the Director, Ashram Ministry of the Board for Mission of the South Kerala Diocese of the Church of South India. Recently, he initiated to hand over many of the Mission fields and Missionaries of the GMI to the South Kerala Diocese of the CSI.

He is a member of the C.S.I. Kattakada (South Kerala Diocese). He was born and brought up in a very strict Christian discipline by his parents. His grandfather Late. Daniel Sarasam was a L.M.S Catechist, became a tool for planting several churches and eventually these churches became that of C.S.I South Kerala Diocese. Even from childhood, Ajith Kumar was very much interested in Christian ministry. When he was 12 years old, he was asked to preach in his church; it was a World Sunday-School Day. His father prepared the sermon for him from Pro. 1:7 – “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” That was his first public sermon. The regular family prayer, the church activities and his parents’ inspiration encouraged him to work for the Glory of God. In his own words: “I do not know how it was illuminated in my mind, but from my childhood, I had only one desire; that is, “To Serve the Lord”.
